The importance of an easily accessible press kit… for us at least…

A guide you don't need to read if your app is free

If you’re a developer who makes “paid” Apps for either iOS or Android, take note! Your press kit is super important! If you’ve ever turned the internet upside down in search of free ways in which you can promote your App or Game, chances are you read some random reviewer’s opinion on how important your press kit is to the success of your App.

Unfortunately, this is only half true. Or at least that’s what we think. You may have a completely different opinion we are dying to hear in the comments below!

If you are promoting a Free App or Game, creating a beautiful Press Kit is pretty much meaningless. (i.e. we probably won’t take the time to actually read it.) So that we don’t sound like heartless monsters, please let me illustrate.

At Edamame Reviews we often cover simple minimalistic games for iOS and Android. We really like minimalistic games because they are so simple, which is why it amazes us how some developers create complex Press Kits for their minimalistic games that are often more complicated than learning how to play the actual game itself! 😂😂😂

If your App or Game is fairly complicated, (or requires hours of hard work in order to get to certain aspects you would like reviewers like us to cover), then your Press Kit is very important! However, if this isn’t the case, then a complex Press Kit for a free game isn’t really necessary.

That having been said, if you are dealing with anything that requires an initial upfront payment, then your Press Kit is probably going to be one of the most important elements in your promotion. And here are the 2 reasons why…

For starters, as reviewers, we can’t just go in and download your game. Your Press Kit allows us to look into your product more closely without having to dig for an email address we can use to ask for more information. Better still, paid Apps tend to have better visual assets (which are normally located in the Press Kit) which can be used to make our articles look great – and attract more views!

Although pretty visuals are very important, what makes your Press Kit so important is the fact that it is the first place we look when trying to contact the developers of an exciting new game! We won’t name any names here, but we have given up on reviewing many games simply because we couldn’t get in touch with the developer to request a promotion code…

If your game is free, you won’t normally have this problem, but if your game is paid… You should always have your Press Kit ready before you launch your game…
